My Secret to Beautiful, Healthy Nails
In my early twenties, after years of trying different nail strengtheners, etc., I found the secret of beautiful, healthy nails. I wish I could give credit to the person who wrote the article I read in a magazine while standing in line at the grocery store. I don't even remember which magazine. All I know is what I read changed my chipped, flaky nails to beautiful, healthy nails that I even have to trim because they get too long.
The trick is, drum roll please, wear rubber gloves to do any type of cleaning, washing dishes or doing anything with cleaners or household chemicals. Yes, even washing dishes. I have a pair of gloves in my kitchen for kitchen chores, a pair for dishes and a pair for cleaning bathrooms.
After I read the article in the grocery store, I thought back to my teenage years when I first started getting into painting nails. My mom always had such beautiful nails and I wondered how she kept them so nice. She never want to a salon or never had a manicure as far as I knew. Now, I'm sure that some of the genetics are passed on for nails but after reading this article, I thought back and realized my mom didn't do dishes. At this time, I'm in my twenties and had my own place. I cleaned my bathrooms and kitchen without gloves and realized that this is when my nails would look their worst. I bought a pair of those ugly, yellow, rubber gloves and tried them.
I think it was a couple of months of wearing my ugly, yellow, rubber gloves for all my cleaning to notice a difference in my nails. By this time, I had a dishwasher so no more washing dishes by hand. My nails were strong and healthy looking. When I polished them up, people argued that my nails were fake. Nope, they're real and I was proud of them.
I'm still proud of my nails today. I keep them relatively short to prevent them from breaking. I found that if I let them grow too long, they break or worse even, accidentally bend backwards. Ooh, that hurts!
So there's my secret to my healthy nails. Of course, Avon products play a part in keeping my hands and cuticles nice and soft. I use Skin So Soft Wintersoft hand cream every morning. Yes, I use WinterSoft all year round. I stock up on it during the winter season. It's my favorite Avon hand cream. I used to use the Moisture Therapy Intensive hand cream but my hands are much softer with the WinterSoft. For color and nail art, I use Avon's Pro Enamel. Avon also has Gel Finish but I'm not a fan. I prefer the Pro Enamel. The colors are bright and the enamel lasts a good week without minor touch-ups.
